Whip It Trailer

Yep. Ladies and gents - a roller derby film - it's called "Whip it" (that's «Ça Roule» in Quebec). Albeit a banked roller derby film, but a banked roller derby film directed by the lovely and talented Drew Barrymore and starring Ellen Page. Let's hope it's awesome. We will be present at the Montreal screening on October 1, 2009. Hopefully we'll see you there.

MONTREAL, CA -- The first WFTDA-sanctioned bout outside of the United States takes place in French Quebec on Saturday night as Montreal tries to knock off visiting Providence. Montreal is currently not ranked under either the official WFTDA system or DNN's unofficial top 25; Providence is officially ranked 7th in the WFTDA's East region and sits at #25th in the nation via the DNN Power Rankings.

Travel Team Double Header

This is derby at its finest folks! Two (count 'em - 2) of Montreal's travel teams take on TWO of Providence Rhode Island's best derby teams.

First the Montreal Sexpos take on the Providence Killah Bees - and then Montreal's A-team and renowned crowd charmers, the New Skids on the Block, take on the Rhode Island Riveters. The neon will be flying in this WFTDA sanctioned bout – don’t miss it! And certainly don’t let your friends miss it.

C’est le derby à son meilleur! Deux (oui, deux!) des équipes de voyage de Montréal se mesurent à DEUX des meilleures équipes de Providence, Rhode Island.

On commence la soirée avec les Sexpos de Montréal contre les Killah Bees de Providence – et finalement l’équipe all-star de Montréal et toujours favorite de la foule, les New Skids on the Block, affronteront les Riveters de Rhode Island. Le néon va envahir l’aréna dans cette joute sanctionnée par la WFTDA – c’est à ne pas manquer!

MTLRD's New Skids on the Block wins the hearts of ECEers.

MTLRD sends, for the first time, the New Skids on the Block to represent at the notorious East Coast Derby Extravaganza.

The team played in two sanctioned WFTDA bouts - only their 2nd and 3rd such bouts - and surprised everyone with their tenacity, heart and shear skating ability. Both games where close battles from the very first jams and the Skids were only defeated by minor amounts. No one expected the first Canadian representatives to the WFTDA to perform so well this early in sanctioned play.

Moreover, the Skids now infamous crowd pleasing antics endeared the neon-clad northerners to a good number of the people at ECE.
